Kamau Ptah, Avis Terrell, Jonathan Foy
Jonathan Foy, Founder/Principal Jonathan received his B.A. in History from the University of Maryland at College Park; a M.A. from the City College of New York in Social Studies—Secondary Education; and a Ed.M. from Bank Street College in Educational Leadership. He served as a teacher (social studies and law education) in Community District # 5 from 1994 to 1999. Jonathan was a co-founding staff member of the Study Center of Law and Peace, a New Vision Initiative, as a social studies and law teacher from 1995-1999. In September of 1999, Mr. Foy worked at Spring Valley High School (SVHS) as a teacher and Dean of Students until 2003. After his tenure at SVHS he became a member of the first graduating class of the NYC Leadership Academy's Aspiring Principals Program. The foundation of UAAHC emerges from the deep-rooted experiences and consistent track-record for establishing effective methods of cultivating the genius in students who come from communities that have been traditionally underserved. Jonathan Foy has demonstrated a keen ability to identify the latent qualities in youngsters, to draw them out and to guide them toward academic and personal achievement. Jonathan has embraced the opportunity of expanding his unique vision and enthusiastically looks forward to serving, with Kamau Ptah, as leaders who will create high academic expectations, transform lives and empower young men to actualize their personal ideals.
Kamau Ptah, Founder/Program Director Educational leader, teacher, traveler, historian, drummer, writer and custodian of indigenous wisdom teachings are several terms that have been appropriately assigned to Kamau Ptah. Kamau received his B.A. in History-Social Science/Education from Hampton University and a M.A. in School Administration from Cambridge College. During his twelve-year tenure as an educator, Kamau has cultivated and refined his passion for the learning and teaching process and strengthened his ability to communicate and create learning environments that are imbued with high expectations, innovation, holistic methods and affective pedagogy. In his role as an educator Kamau has demonstrated creativity and enlivened his practice by integrating artistic, student-centered and character-based methods. Embracing the ancient adage, "Know Thyself", Kamau seeks to help guide his students to the threshold of their own identity.
