In order to create a healthy school culture, the UAAHC is based upon the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles) that derives from the cultural celebration of Kwanzaa. The seven principles are geared toward cultivating character and building community for all members of our school family. • UNITY: to strive for and maintain unity within the family, community and nation. • SELF-DETERMINATION: to give scholars and staff the capacity to define and create themselves. • COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY: to empower scholars and staff to take a proactive role in community affairs. • COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS: to encourage scholars and staff to share resources for the betterment of their community. • PURPOSE: to help scholars and staff identify or discover their strengths in order to make a positive contribution to society. • CREATIVITY: to cultivate one's imagination through artistic modes of expression. • FAITH: to strengthen our scholars and staff confidence in their ability to achieve excellence.
