Prohibited Scholar Conduct:
All scholars should conduct themselves in an appropriate and civil manner, with proper regard for the rights and welfare of other scholars and other members of the school community, and for the care of school facilities and equipment. Scholars who violate these school rules will be required to accept the consequences for their conduct. Scholars may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including suspension from school, when they engage in:

  • Conduct that is disorderly.
  • Conduct that is insubordinate.
  • Conduct that is disruptive.
  • Conduct that is violent.
  • Conduct that endangers the safety, morals, health, or welfare of others.
  • Any form of academic misconduct.

Disciplinary Penalties:
Disciplinary action in most cases will be firm, fair and consistent so as to be the most effective in changing scholar behavior. For non-violent behaviors, discipline will be progressive.  This means that a scholar's first violation will usually merit a lighter penalty than subsequent violations.  Scholars who are found to have violated UAAHC's Code of Conduct may be subject to the penalties enumerated below, either alone or in combination.  The school personnel authorized to impose penalties will be consistent with the scholar's right to due process and NYS/NYC Educational Law.

  1. Oral warning
  2. Written warning
  3. Written notification to parent(s) or guardian(s)
  4. Detention
  5. Suspension of athletic participation
  6. Suspension from extracurricular activities
  7. Suspension from other privileges
  8. Removal from classroom by teacher
  9. Short-term (three days or less) suspension from school
  10. Long-term (five days or more) suspension from school
  11. Indefinite suspension (not more than one year) from school.

Alcoholic, Narcotics, Drugs and Weapons:
No drugs are allowed on UAAHC premises at any time!  Programs will be offered with the intent of discouraging scholars from using substances.  Scholars found in possession of alcohol or restricted substances will be subject to immediate suspension and/or arrest.  If a scholar appears "under the influence" of alcohol or other drugs in class or on school grounds, he will be sent to the Health Office, located in the Teen Center.  The nurse and/or health aide will examine the scholar and notify Mr. Foy, Principal and/or Mr. Ptah, Program Director who will notify the scholar's parents(s) or guardian(s).  The scholar and parents will be informed that the scholar must report to the school counselor for a minimum of three sessions for counseling.  If a scholar is found "under the influence" on a subsequent occasion, he will be subject to suspension.  Scholars who are found guilty of bringing a weapon to school will be subject to suspension from school for at least one calendar year and/or prosecuted!

Academic Integrity:
It is extremely important that academic work accurately represents the ability and effort of each individual scholar.  Copying of homework, plagiarism, and cheating on tests, assignments, or lab reports are examples of infractions that are prohibited.  Any act that unfairly represents the individual work of a scholar or that unfairly places the scholar at an academic advantage is considered a violation of academic integrity and will be handled through UAAHC's Code of Conduct.  If work is found to be "shared," each individual that is involved in the infraction is subject to disciplinary consequences.
