UAAHC Step Team

To reinforce the concepts learned during the day and broaden our scholar's horizons, we have created an enriching Extended Day Program and Saturday Academy.  The Extended Day Program occurs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm and the Saturday Academy operates from 10:00-2:00pm.

Extended Day Program:  The first hour of our program is geared toward homework assistance, tutoring and academic development.  Our teachers make themselves available for our scholar's academic inquiries and concerns.

During the second hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays, our partners, Giant Thinking facilitate youth centered workshops on identity, self-esteem, manhood, values, overcoming obstacles, life skills, substance abuse, health and fitness.

Saturday Academy:  Our Saturday Academy has an academic, recreational and cultural focus. The first two hours are devoted to a student-centered interdisciplinary workshop that focuses on English and Math. Scholars are exposed to literature and current events with the challenge to think critically about local, national and international issues from the disciplines of math and English. There is a strong emphasis on vocabulary development, mathematic computations and problem solving of some of today's social and political concerns.

The second half of the day focuses on recreational and cultural activities, such as:

• Athletics

• Field Trips

• African Drumming

• Song Writing

• Self-Defense (Martial Arts)
